Review of Rehearsal:
On 10th October, over eighty singers came together for the first Cumbria Singers’ rehearsal of the 2026-2027 Season. John Butt, the Music Director, led the choir through all the choruses in Handel’s ‘Saul’ so that they had an overall impression of how the complete work and the story unfolds. John’s sense of humour provided much amusement as the choir attempted to sing everything for the first time. He was impressed with our sight reading and is confident that we will once again achieve a high standard of singing which will ‘wow’ our audience when it comes to the performance in April.
Members’ comments on this first rehearsal included:
'I just wanted to let you know I thoroughly enjoyed the rehearsal. Having listened to Saul on you tube I wasn't sure about it but John made it come alive! Jackie 'Just to say how much I enjoyed working with John Butt yesterday. By the end of the day I felt such a sense of achievement at covering all the repertoire - and he really is a breath of fresh air, very focussed on supporting us to become not just familiar with Saul but to be excited by the drama and to bring this to our performance. He helped us improve our pitching, diction and general accuracy by giving us a confidence-building jumping off point. He and David worked as a team to give us help whenever we needed it - which was frequently! He was also very funny and approachable and I am looking forward to the next rehearsal.' Viv.
