The evening of Summer Music, performed as a social and fund-raising event for Cumbria Singers, took place in the historical setting of the Great Hall in the stately home of Hutton-in-the-Forest. As President of Cumbria Singers, Lady Inglewood had offered the venue to Cumbria Singers to use for this occasion.

Eden Baroque

Katharine May and Michael Sanderson established Eden Baroque after moving to Cumbria in 2017 with the aim of bringing well-known and less-performed baroque chamber music to as wide an audience as possible.

Programme

The programme of 17th & 18th Century Songs included the works of Handel, Arne, Purcell and Downland with historical anecdotes provided by Katharine and Michael adding additional humour and background information to the music.

Katharine accompanied Michael on the harpsichord and also played several solo pieces. Michael sang the songs and also played his baroque violin, which required frequent tuning because of its gut strings and the humid weather conditions!

John Crouch provided a sumptuous selection of canapés which guests enjoyed before the concert began and during the interval. It was a delightful way to spend a summer evening!
